What It Means to Work With an Authorized Butler Builder®

Butler Manufacturing has been engineering steel building systems since 1901 — longer than almost anyone else in the industry. Their authorized Butler Builder® network is a selective program: Butler handpicks the contractors they trust to represent their systems, and A&S General Contractors is one of only two companies in Amarillo to hold that designation.

The Butler Builder® relationship matters for one practical reason: it determines the quality of the steel components that go into your building. When A & S delivers a custom metal building, Butler fabricates the structural steel components to the exact specifications of your project — factory pre-punched, exact-fit parts engineered to align precisely on-site. The result is a tighter, more accurate assembly with less field modification and a structure that performs as a fully integrated system rather than a collection of generic parts.

Butler’s standard warranty covers all Butler-supplied materials for three years, with an optional five-year extension. Their Butler-Cote® 500 finish system carries a full 25-year non-prorated warranty against blistering, peeling, and cracking. And their MR-24® standing seam roof system has documented performance extending to over 50 years of weather-tight service before major maintenance — nearly double the lifespan of conventional roof systems. In the Texas Panhandle, where hail, wind, and temperature swings are routine, that kind of long-term performance matters.

–  HOW IT WORKS

How A & S Delivers a Custom Metal Building

Every A & S metal building project follows the same structured process — from the first conversation to a completed structure ready for occupancy.

01

Step 1 – Site Visit & Consultation

We start with a site visit. Before anything goes on paper, we want to see where your building is going, understand how you intend to use it, and identify any site conditions that could affect the design or cost. There’s no charge for this conversation and no obligation — we’d rather give you accurate information up front than win a bid on numbers that don’t hold up.

02

Step 2 – Custom Design & Engineering

From the site visit, our team develops a conceptual design tailored to your project. If you’re coming to us with a design already in progress, we work with your architect or engineer to refine it. If you’re starting from a rough idea or a picture, we develop the concept from scratch. Every design is engineered for your specific load requirements, span needs, site conditions, and local building codes — nothing is pulled from a catalog.

03

Step 3 – Pricing with a Drawing

We don’t submit pricing without a drawing to back it up. When you receive a bid from A & S, it comes with a conceptual drawing so you can see exactly what you’re being priced on. Our bids are broken down to standard CSI construction divisions — general conditions, structural steel, roofing, wall systems, doors, and finishes — so there are no vague line items or hidden allowances.

04

Step 4 – Butler Fabrication & Site Assembly

Once a project is under contract, Butler Manufacturing fabricates your structural steel components to the project’s exact specifications. Factory pre-punched, precision-fit parts arrive on-site ready for assembly — reducing field modification time and ensuring the building goes together the way it was designed. A & S manages all inspections through completion.

– WHY METAL

Why Choose a Custom Metal Building

Steel is one of the most cost-effective and versatile materials in commercial construction. Here’s why clients across the Texas Panhandle choose custom metal buildings from A & S:

Faster Construction Timelines

Butler’s precision-fabricated components can accelerate construction timelines by up to 50% compared to conventional building methods. Factory-engineered parts arrive on-site ready to assemble — less cutting, less fitting, less time on the ground.

Clear-Span Space with No Interior Columns

Steel systems can achieve clear spans exceeding 250 feet with no interior support columns — ideal for warehouses, agricultural buildings, arenas, and any application where open, unobstructed floor space is essential to how the building will be used.

Built for West Texas Weather

Butler’s MR-24® standing seam roof system is the industry’s most proven weather-tight metal roof, with documented performance exceeding 50 years in service. In a climate defined by hail, wind, and extreme temperature swings, that longevity matters.

Lower Long-Term Cost

Steel buildings require less ongoing maintenance than wood-framed or masonry construction. Combined with Butler’s 25-year finish warranty and the MR-24® roof’s longevity, the total cost of ownership over the life of the building is typically lower than conventional alternatives.

Design Flexibility

Custom metal buildings aren’t one-size-fits-all. A & S engineers every building to your specific dimensions, use case, site conditions, and aesthetic requirements. Exterior wall panels, finishes, fenestration, and roof pitch can all be tailored to match the look you’re after.

Natural Daylighting Options

Butler’s SunLite Strip® daylighting system incorporates clear roof panels compatible with the MR-24® roof, allowing natural light into the building’s interior and reducing long-term electrical consumption — a practical benefit for warehouses, agricultural buildings, and large open-span facilities.
